Our family was privileged to receive several of Birdcage Press' art card sets to review and share with you. I love looking at art, learning about art, and getting to see my children develop a love for great art. Birdcage Press has created tools for all of us to use whether you are a beginner or experienced at art appreciation.

| Look at all those beautiful paintings you could learn about! |
1. Close Up -Art Card Games: These sets introduce 24 paintings by showing the painting and then a close-up of a section of a painting. Each set features artwork from one museum which is a fabulous idea! I was able to review three of the sets but there are a total of five different sets available.
Museum of Modern Art: (48 Cards, 5 suggested activities, one card with nudity) Wow! This really is a great concept for introducing art to children and families. You could use these cards as preparation for a visit to this museum and then a "treasure hunt" while visiting the museum in person. There are also instructions for using the cards in a game of Go Fish! or Old Maid. My favorite thing to do with these cards is just to view them and talk about them...picture study. We are using them as part of our Modern Art study. Younger children can use the cards for matching and pattern recognition. The quality of the artwork is excellent and the selection of paintings is colorful and attractive. Children of all ages will enjoy these cards.
I also reviewed:
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (no nudity) ****This was my favorite set of the three I reviewed.
National Gallery of Art (two paintings with partial nudity)
Big thumbs up for these sets! I would love to incorporate these sets of cards into my Harmony Fine Arts plans and I will work on writing a supplement with suggestions for current and future users. They are an excellent tool to familiarize your student with a variety of artists and styles. See the Birdcage Press website for additional museums and sets. See below for a special free shipping offer!

| Each Go Fish for Art set comes with an informative booklet. |
2. Go Fish for Art Games: These sets include 36 cards, instructions for games, and a 28 page booklet introducing you to great art and artists. I was able to review two of the sets but there are a total of five different sets available.
Go Fish for Modern Artists: (36 cards, 8 artists, instructions for three games, one card with nudity) We have thoroughly enjoyed this set of cards as part of our Modern Art picture study, for artist study with the accompanying booklet, and as inspiration for art projects. The set of cards has really brought our art appreciation to life and given us a lot to talk about.
I also reviewed:
Go Fish for Impressionist Artists (one painting with nudity)
Another winner with huge thumbs up for these sets of cards and booklets! Each of these card sets and accompanying booklets will give you the confidence to offer art in a fun and entertaining way. Children can handle the cards, get to know an artist by seeing four of his paintings, and then learn about the specific art style or time period with the additional booklet. These are a wonderful way to introduce or inspire a love of great art. I highly recommend them. See the Birdcage Press website for additional Go Fish for Art sets. See below for a special free shipping offer.

I'd use these in several different ways. We'd play games with them. I'd make a magnetic frame to put one on the refrigerator and rotate them. We'd use them to practice art techniques.
Man, I can use these for all sorts of sitzies and I am sure I can come up with some other games. I cannot believe I have never seen nor heard of these babies b4!
I'd use them to integrate into our art appreciation, or as inspiration for art projects in our homeschooling -- and use them for games with the grandkids, also.
I would love to use these with my kids to supplement their homeschool art class. I am following your blog and following you on twitter and pinterest.
:)

All of those sets look like wonderful ways to add some excitement to art appreciation! It would be hard to choose just one.
This would be something we could use for learning on the go since we are always in and out.

OOOh Barb, you know we would love this. I think we would just love looking at them too! We had the Metropolitan Museum of Art calendar one year and loved it.
We'd definitely play games. I can imagine doing a bit of work to make bingo and "I have ...who has" type games from the cards too.
We'd definitely play games and I'd look at using the cards for Bingo and "I have...who has" as well. Portable art appreciation in the car would be handy as well.
I would definitely use these as part of my homeschool curriculum with my kids. I currently work on artists with the children at a pace of about one a month. I love art and artists and art museums and am trying to give a little of that love to my kids.
I would like to use these for some sort of fine arts study. If you did some sort of informal lesson plan on how to use these or incorporate them into your art plans, it would be greatly appreciated!
These cards are so cool! We would definitely use them to BEGIN our art study. Gotta start somewhere!
I would love to discover all the ways to use these lovely art cards!
I'd use these in our morning calendar/circle time to review artists and techniques. And play games, of course!

I grew up around a lot of art (my Dad got his bachelor's degree in art history), but have felt a little inept at passing it on to my children. This would be a lot of fun!
I would use these as a game to supplement our CM art curriculum! thnx!
These are great games--we have one of the Go Fish games already but would love the Boston MFA Close-Up one. It would tie-in to a trip to the MFA we have planned for this spring!

We are planning a trip to Boston, so I would use the Boston Fine Arts Museum set to prepare ahead of time. And I could use any of the other sets for art appreciation in our homeschool.

I would use these to incorporate art into our school days. I would play games with them and put one on our art easel and "study" it.

We love learning about the different birds in our area. Whether we use them to help identify or just learn about favorite birds, I'm sure these will help!
I wrote about the bird cards--sorry-wrong blog. Right now, anything that will help us appreciate and identify different types and styles of art would be wonderful. Thank you for the possibilities.
We love studying fine arts in our homeschool. We would use the game to learn more about artists
I would use it to enhance our art studies and excite the boys about learning!

I'm sure my girls would love to play Go Fish with these cards
We love art and these cards would make a beautiful addition to our homeschool!
Hello Barb,
I posted the following comment on February 23, but don't see it anymore.
"
I have five children ages 3 through 14 years old. I would let the younger ones explore the cards, maybe sort them according to subject or colors. I would also let them pick a favorite card and let them describe what they see. I might have them turn the card face down and let them tell me what they remember from the card. The older ones could sort them according to painter or style or time period and give more accurate descriptions or they might even be able to imitate one of the pieces of art by making one of their own. The cards could also be used as a starting point for writing a short description on a certain style or painter.
Of course we would also enjoy the suggestions given by Birdcage Press about what to play with the cards."
Eva
We'd play the games as included and then knowing my children, they would make up their own. Anything to expose them to great art and make it fun!
