Savoring the Moments - House Filled With Music

video

Just a snapshot from my week....surrounded by music. Mr. A plays the trumpet and Mr. B plays the violin. They usually practice and rehearse at different times of the day but yesterday I realized that they both were playing at the same time in opposite ends of the house.

I almost didn't share this video because you will see....I have a weird voice right now because of spring allergies. I also don't do the best job of giving you something interesting to look at in the video but you can hear the music and that is what is important.

The main point is the sweet sound of the fiddle and the jazzing new tunes Mr. A is working on right now. I know that this is something I will miss about having both boys living at home. It also reminds me of all the time spent nurturing their music when they were younger...it is so worth the effort to start them on the road to learning and then mastering a musical instrument. Ten years of listening to the trumpet??? Eleven years listening to the violin??? If I can do it, you can do it.

Enjoy a glimpse into the sound of my world.

That is so awesome. 10 years of listening to them practice is true dedication. My parents did it with me when I was a child playing piano. As you know, you end up playing the same song over and over to get it right. Well, I just found out my parents had written words to all the music I played and would sing while I practiced! I still have my piano and whenever they visit I'll play something from back then and they'll both start singing these funny little songs!
Music is so important for kids' mental growth. Did they choose what instruments they play or did you choose it for them? Always interested in how folks get drawn to particular instruments. I personally begged to play piano. Had a tiny one when I was a toddler.

Both boys chose their instruments at a very early age.

Mr. A could barely hold a trumpet up level when he started playing but we found a teacher that clicked with him and she has stuck with us all through the years.

Mr. B heard a violin played on a street corner and turned to tell me that he wanted to play the violin. We started with a Suzuki teacher, went through their program for six years and then ventured out on our own. Mr. B has learned to fiddle all on his own.

I played the violin, the organ, and the guitar as a young person and I truly think those are some of my happiest memories of childhood. I am glad I could make room for music all my children. (My daughter plays the flute.)

What a lovely home. It reminded me of Miss Mason's mention of the atmosphere of the home. What sweet music.

Barb, I enjoyed this peek into your world. Both of mine play the piano, and as we near recital time, I'm often invited into the dining room (where our piano resides) for small concerts. Those are moments I savor.

That's awesome, even more so that you didn't notice that it was going on at the same time. :) Oh the "sounds" that are normal in our home. I've played trumpet/french horn since the 5th grade. Great sound!

Oh that's neat! My girls have just signed to start learning brass instruments - one the cornet, and the other the tenor horn. We are very excited!
