I am often asked about what pencil sharpeners to use with colored pencils. I found this short video on DickBlick.com that gives some great tips.
I am not so sure about using the electric pencil sharpener but I do suggest the handheld sharpener she shows in the video.
Hope that helps!

I also highly recommend "Pro Art Soft Sharpener."

I've been using Prismacolor colored pencils a lot in my art lately, and I rarely have problems with my lead breaking with this sharpener.
Thanks for the tip!
Barb, how nice such a post on pencil sharpeners. We have 3. One is battery powered and we name it 'The Beast' since it eats pencils. We use it very carefully and rarely. Then there is the M=R Mobius/Rupert hand turned cased sharpener. It doesn't break the lead and stops when the pencil is sharp. And we have a small one, which we almost never use unless we are outdoors and forgot our big machines.
Nice video.
Thanks for this post & link.

I love Prismacolor Pencils, but hate how the cores always seemed to break. I tried several different sharpeners, but I found the sharpening method that works best is to use a craft knife. You can expose as little or as much of the core as you want and create the perfect point, without breaking the precious core. There is far less wastage, as well.
