I am doing some research for our summer art plans which include a study of Vincent Van Gogh.
I found this really interesting slideshow of Van Gogh's self portraits and I thought I would share. It is 51 seconds long so take a minute and enjoy.

That is really amazing! I was caught by how the color of his eyes changed, dark, green, hazel, orange blue. interesting. Very Cool Video. :)
The eyes are what captured my attention as well. My son says they are the kind of eyes that follow you no matter where you are in the room.
I never really knew how many self portraits he had done until they were all lined up in the slideshow.
YouTube is such a great resource.
Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking I'll make an artist/painting log similar to the one you just posted for composer study. Or do you already have one posted?
If you go to Harmony Fine Arts, click on the free downloads tab, download the Art and Music Plans 1800's and it has two artist notebook pages and another composer page you can look at.

Hope that helps.

Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this Barb!
We saw some Van Gogh's in person at a museum last year, and it was enlightening to the kids to see just how "bumpy" his paintings were...in your summer studies be sure to find one local painting of his to look at because it's just so cool!
thanks for sharing that, barb. very interesting!
Perfect timing! We are starting our lessons for the 2010/2011 year on June 7th and Van Gogh is our first artist study!!!
Can't wait to show the kids :)
Wow! Mesmerizing!
I watched this several times. I did not realize that he painted so many self-portraits. Thank you so much for sharing this! We just read some books on Van Gogh and I can't wait to show this to my kiddos in the morning. I swear we are on the same wave length.
