Harmony Fine Arts: Grade One

Harmony Fine Arts cover grade one

Revised 2/27/08 to reflect the changes made to Grade One (read below) The revisions were made to eliminate a book that has become expensive to use. I took the opportunity to revise the whole program to reflect feedback I have received over the last two years. I think all the changes have only made this plan better than ever. It has been streamlined in option two to include only two books and option three now has more in-depth activities for each of the artists studied. I eliminated the coloring books in option three that were history related so the plan is more appealing to those that are not using the four year cycle of history as outlined in the Well-Trained Mind. Take a look below to see the changes made and I would love to hear any feedback at any time about any of my year plans. harmonyfinearts@yahoo.com

Grade One of Harmony Fine Arts-Art and Music Appreciation
I thought it might be helpful to start a series of blog entries that explain my art and music appreciation program. I wrote a plan for each grade that follows the classical style of chronological study of art and music. It also includes a Charlotte Mason style picture study schedule and music appreciation schedule. (Overview of each grade and years covered)

So what can I tell you about first grade?

First of all, here is a link that shows you all the resources that you can choose from for grade one.
First Grade Resources

First grade has three options for art appreciation:

In the first grade plan, the selections for picture study are not tied to the ancient history time period. There are no specific artists during this time so the first grade plan covers artists that young children will be interested in. Picture study selections are included with links to view the artwork online.

The second option in the plan uses two art appreciation books to introduce the child to artists. Both books present the artists and artwork in a conversational picture book style. Each week there are short activities planned that correspond with the books.

The third option uses
use the Child Size Masterpiece art cards and online links to view great art. The follow up activities are found in Dover coloring books. Children will view art, learn to recognize an artist's style, and if desired, learn the titles of paintings.

The Harmony Fine Arts schedules out a plan for listening to eight different composers using your own CDs.

The Harmony Fine Arts art and music appreciation plan comes with full instructions on how to get started.

In the weeks to come, I will be explaining each grade offered and how you can benefit from using my plan in your family.
