Harmony Fine Arts: Grade Seven

grade seven

Here we go with grade seven of Harmony Fine Arts. This year is packed with hands on skills if you choose that option. It covers the third year in the history cycle if you are using either The Well-Trained Mind or Tapestry of Grace. This includes the period of time from 1600s to the 1850s.

You can check out a sample plan for weeks 5-8 and a list of resources that give you an idea of what you can expect to cover in this year's plan.

This year covers the following list of artists:

Rembrandt

Jan Vermeer

John Singleton Copley

Jacques-Louis David

Joseph Mallord William Turner

John Constable

John James Audubon

Eugene Delacroix

This year's composers include:

Mendelssohn

Chopin

Schumann

Grieg

Strauss

Verdi

Wagner

Brahms

Dvorak

Here's what to expect with this year plan for art and music appreciation.

Option one for art appreciation schedules the artists listed above with suggested artwork to look up online with links that are provided in the plan. This option gives you a solid art picture study plan that you can use with the internet for an easy and inexpensive way to offer art appreciation to your child. This option is appropriate for all ages of children.

Option two for art appreciation uses three books in the Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artist series. Two Dover Publications coloring books are used to supplement your study of art for this time period. In addition to these materials, this option schedules Watercolor for the Artistically Undiscovered and Kids' Crafts: Polymer Clay. These books were a big success in our family and I'm sure your children will enjoy them too.

Option three for art in grade seven is a simple plan for working through Artistic Pursuits Junior High Book 1. This book guides the child through 77 different drawings using pencils and ink.

Finally, music appreciation in grade seven is based on the CDs in the series "Story of .....In Words and Music". These inexpensive CDs include a biography of the composer and some selections of his music. You can link to samples of these CDs by going to the materials section on Harmony Fine Arts and following the links to A

As you will find with each of the years in Harmony Fine Arts, you can pick and choose which options to use at any time. You can use your own resources or those from the library. The plan can also be used with children that are younger in your family if you desire to keep your whole family together for art and music appreciation. Full instructions are included along with materials lists and an art supply list.
