Fourth grade is the last year plan in the grammar stage and it is the year that you will add in some actual drawing skills with the classic drawing book Drawing With Children by Mona Brookes. Harmony Fine Arts has each project scheduled out for you and ideas for projects to use with the book.
Sample Plan for Year 4
The years covered in this grade are from the 1850s to the present time. I put the plan together with The Well-Trained Mind cycles of history in mind and this plan would correspond with the fourth year for Modern History. You can also use grade four along with Tapestry of Grace year 4.
The plan for studying artists include such artists as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso and Georgia O'Keeffe. For a complete view of what resources are used with the fourth grade plan, you can look on the Harmony Fine Arts website for the materials I suggest using.

Here are the three options for art:
Option one schedules eight artists for picture study. I provide internet links for you to view the artwork online and for you to use to print out for your art notebooks. I also give internet links for online biographies for you to use when making a notebook summary for each artist.
Option two includes Drawing With Children, two books in the Come Look With Me series, three books in the Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists series, and one book from the How Artists See series.
Option three schedules a variety of Dover Coloring Books and Dover art postcards to use to learn about this time period's artists. For an idea of what you will study you can see the Harmony Fine Arts website for a list of materials used for this option.

The plan for music includes eight composers scheduled for you to listen to. The plan uses Meet the Great Composers Book 1 as its spine. This book includes a CD for you to listen to as you go through the book. There are CDs suggested in addition to Meet the Great Composers but these are optional and you can use the CDs you already have or go to the library and borrow CDs they have available.
As you will find with each of the years in Harmony Fine Arts, you can pick and choose which options to use at any time. You can use your own resources or those from the library. There are plenty of options that you can use with the internet. The plan can also be used with children that are younger in your family if you desire to keep your whole family together for art and music appreciation. Full instructions are included along with materials lists and an art supply list.
Leave me a comment or email me directly if you have any specific questions about how to use Harmony Fine Arts with your family.
