Katie and The Impressionists-Book Review

Art ideas
Katie Meets the Impressionists by James Mayhew

The illustrations are fun to look at and give you an idea of what the word "impressionist" means. The story is sweet and my children have loved the character Katie because she is so mischievious. It helps our children imagine what it would be like to step into the world of a painting.

Great introduction to the fine art of painting for young ones.

The book includes reproductions of the paintings:
The Luncheon and Field of Poppies by Claude Monet
Girl with a Watering Can and Her First Evening Out by Pierre Auguste Renoir
The Blue Dancers by Edgar Degas

If you have some extra time you might try this online activity with your child to learn more about impressionism.

Have some fun this summer with art!
Barbara
